[EQL] Hanging Out in Crushbone

One of the neat features of EQL is that you’re not locked in to any class combinations – or even any race. Or deity. There are a few methods of changing them as you play. You can technically just buy a token in the shop but then you can also obtain tokens through other means, like questing, and reaching level 50. You can do faction to be able to unlock races. I think this is fascinating, and I wish there was a better place where I can learn all of this stuff, because there’s so many changes and differences between EQL and EQ, that I can’t possibly know it all (yet).

Anyway. That’s how it ended up that I reached level 25 with my ‘main’ combination, a paladin / wizard / beastlord – and then I promptly went back to 10, and started playing a warrior / shaman / rogue, for a bit of a change. Now I’m level 16 on that combination, and I’m already thinking about what other combination I want to play (when let’s face it, I’ll probably just swap back to the level 25 characters).

My only gripe so far is that it feels like the game punishes you for grouping up and I’m not quite a fan of that. You earn less experience, mobs are harder in a multiplayer instance vs. solo, etc. You would almost be better off playing completely alone – except for the fact that of course you want to play with your friends. Crushbone offered a few new pieces of gear for my collection. A nice bow, a helmet, and even a clicky bramblecoat bp that is a permanent buff. That you can also remove from that item, and put in another bp. Neat.

I’m really having a lot of fun in EQL – granted, it IS still just the first weekend of release. I’m hoping not to burn out, but we’ll see how THAT goes.

[EQL] Some time in Befallen

At the time of this post, my character is level 13 and I’ve settled on a Paladin / Wizard / Beastlord to play. For now at least. I’ve learned a lot more about EverQuest Legends that I didn’t know before. Like, if you’re leveling, don’t go jumping to D4 thinking that you’ll get more experience. The ‘sweet spot’ as it were seems to be D2, where you’ll still get some pretty good loot, and the kills come fast.

Evasive stance is my best friend, paired with spell blade.

You should use /advloot based on your situation – when grinding xp I have craft materials auto deposit, but I also leave it open because you can merge right from that UI window. Had no idea. Wish I had of noticed it when I was looting 200 rings and merging them into one another. I do wish there was a way to trade to others in the group from that window, as loot seems to be individual, but that’s alright.

I learned you can use motes to upgrade spells, that you can take focus out of gear and place it in new gear if you want. It really opens up gameplay, nothing is ‘solved’ so you get to play around with all of the things and figure out what works for you. I’m having a lot of fun with it, a weird combination of nostalgia and learning how to work with all of the changes.

I’m hoping I can inch closer to 20 this weekend, we’ll see how it goes. I’m out of practice with knowing where I should be hanging out at, and what sort of gear I want to be wearing – but I’m having fun re-learning all of this stuff.

[WO] Destination Unknown – Next!

I decided to take a chance, and posted to the forums that I was looking for a set of enchanted scale to borrow for my journal update. I had a lot of people get back to me saying they could help me out, including Brattygirl (someone who is often right there to help if I need it) and Xallo – since both Xallo and I were on at the same time, I promtly took them up on the offer and marked one more task off of the list.

I also attended a Rift on the Independence server, and worked a few missions that I was able to squeeze in. Progress is slow, but I think if I just keep plucking away at it I should be able to obtain my cloak. I do regret only bringing my Libila priest to rifts for the past few months, but honestly I’ve just never been much of a min / max player, and that’s OK. I’m really hoping I can get my cloak within the next year (so sometime in 2027) and I would consider that a win. The thing is my interest will probably wane as it always does and I will lose all of this awesome motivation. For now though. Onward!

[Life] My Journal System

Pictured above are my current active journals / planners that I’ve been using for most of 2026. This does not include any sketch books, those I’m leaving out for the purpose of this post.

Started from the front bottom, that is a hobonichi weeks, which I am currently using as a media journal. When I watch a TV show, a movie, or read a book, it goes in here. I don’t usually get very specific, but I give some star ratings and keep track of what series I’m working my way through. I have a really bad memory, and that’s one of the main reasons I wanted to set this up. I actually love looking back through the months and seeing what I watched.

Behind that on the bottom is my Hobonichi 5-year diary. I just started that this year, so I’m on the very first year. I’ve managed to write every single day, because it’s small and simply paragraph sized. There is a blank page on the opposite side, and I’m going to turn this diary into a 10 year using those pages. Should be some interesting reading.

After that is the cover showing for my commonplace book. I don’t write in this one every day, it’s an encyclopedia of things that interest me. I have game notes, write ups about interesting articles I’ve read, things I want to remember later. This should be a multi-year book. I had one last year and it was way too small, and was filled.

Following that, I have my Hemlock and Oak planner, which I’ve just been using for a few weeks now. It has a vertical weekly calendar, with lots of space for tracking and notes. It does NOT have daily pages – important, I do not need daily pages.

After that is my hobonichi cousin which I bought and used for a few months, but I don’t feel like I was making good use of it because I did not want to use the daily pages. I’ve turned this book into a writing prompt book, so each day I answer some writing prompts, and I write a line from local news + world news.

Then is my reading journal, again not one I write in every day. I record statistics from StoryGraph, and books I’ve read, and how I found them.

After that the brown one on top is my ‘practice right handed writing’ journal. This one is brand new. I wanted to teach myself how to write with my right hand, for no other reason than – why not. There are only a few entries in here so far, I’m writing out The Count of Monte Cristo. It’s messy.

Finally, on the very top is my dream journal. This one is a few years old now, and when I have a dream that I remember, I write it out. I tend to have very vivid dreams that I remember nightly, so there are quite a few written out in here so far. I should also probably decorate the cover some time.

8 books is probably not the most I’ve ever had, but it can seem daunting, I know. Out of those, only 4 are used daily. I love using my fountain pens and having a reason to write in these books each day. I love looking back and seeing what happened, even if it wasn’t that great. I can see how I’ve grown, and how my family has changed. If you’ve ever wondered if I truly enjoy writing (even though this blog is now 20+ years old) well. There’s all the proof right there on my desk.

I also happen to be a very tactile person, which is why all of these journals and notebooks are physical and not digital. I’ve tried digital and it just doesn’t scratch that itch. I’ve been writing in notebooks and journals since I was 13, and I have a huge collection stashed away in bankers boxes. I hope to continue that for as long as I am able to.

[WO] Destination Unknown – Update

I know I already wrote about Destination Unknown, basically the ‘end game’ quest journal entry for Wurm Online but I have been plucking away at this for about a week now and I thought I’d do a little update. Some things will move very slowly – for example slaying 20,000 creatures and helping with missions (and rifts) those are things I can’t just instantly go out there and do.

However, I was pretty close to being able to complete the ‘build a 10 story building’ one, so I set off to do that. I had 77 carpentry, and I needed 83 in order to build 10 floors, so that is what I worked on first. I opted to work on fine carpentry which is a subclass of carpentry, so I earned around 30 points in total while imping rope tools, and at the same time my carpentry started going up.

Once I hit 83 I added two floors to my lighthouse over at Quail Cove, and the task was completed.

I did also manage to attend two rifts this week, and hope to be able to continue on with that (attending two or three a week) until I inevitably get burned out. I’m running with it while the motivation is there.

I’m also attempting to get those 6 higher quality treasure maps so I can complete that one, so far I’ve gotten 6 maps this week but none of them are the quality that I need.

Here’s hoping I get someone interested in lending me their scale gear, too.
