[GW2] Skyscale – Obtained

One of my main GW2 goals was to obtain skyscale, a mount that lets you (in a way) fly. There are two ways to get skyscale, through living world season 4 (the original method) which I am told is incredibly difficult and lengthily – and then the newer, better, shorter method: Secrets of the Obscure.

Step one is to find an abandoned egg. This took me quite a bit of time because once you look for the locations they’re done for that week. Once I had the egg, I got the rest of skyscale in a single day. Now, part of this is because I had already been working through the Secrets of the Obscure story, and I had been doing a lot of rifts, meta, and map completion. I also had a hefty number of supplies stockpiled, so when it came time to pick up my Provisioner Tokens, I was all set.

The skyscale food is also locked behind a 1x a day craft – but you can buy it on the auction house, so I splurged, dropped 45g, and did that. I did not want to wait 12 days to complete this quest if I didn’t have to.

The “hardest” part for me was actually unlocking the full mastery that is required – thankfully the Wizard’s Vault came in handy here, you can buy mastery experience. I did that to get the last little bit I needed. I’m very glad to be done, I hear that it makes working through other maps a bit easier, plus further on in the game everyone just sort of assumes you have a skyscale too. What’s up next for me in GW2? I’m not quite sure. I was thinking of working on the latest expansion – visions of Eternity, and then going backwards from there. I also think I want to play my Mesmer, and not the Guardian as I have been playing so far. I enjoy the class a lot, but she doesn’t have much done in the way of story / progression. Absolutely not needed though, as most things are account wide.

Happy 20th Blog Birthday

That’s right, I’ve been posting here for 20 years as of today. That’s almost half of my life (I’m 45) talking about video games and life. The address might have changed over time (this blog was originally called MmoQuests, if you’ve been around for that long) but things have stayed pretty steady, both in the games that I choose to play, and my hobbies and interests.

What has changed in that time?

Moved across the country. Worked for a real video game company (Carbine Studios). Got married. Worked for NCSoft. Had one kid. Moved to the middle of the country. Had another kid. Moved all the way to the other side of the country (with more moves in the far future). I’ve grown up. My ideas, thoughts, and what I hold precious to me has changed. I really like who I am as a person these days. I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished, even though it does NOT look like what I imagined for myself. That’s OK. I’m still learning to be flexible, and I’m still trying to figure some things out – but hopefully we’ll see me writing here for another 20.

[WoW] Gold Making Wrap Up – Week 25 (2026)

It’s another week where not too much gold making actually happened, but some of that is because I didn’t get to post my auctions the way I had wanted. See, I was swapping from a 48h timer to a 24h timer, and needed to let them expire, and then I waited too long and I wanted to post them in the early morning hours, and not later in the day – so I had to wait until Saturday. I THINK everything is sorted now and it should be all on track.

That means I actually need to log in, of course. I’m thinking that first thing in the morning will be the best time for me to do this. It’s the habit I had built for years, and is simple to remember. I have roughly an hour in the mornings before the house wakes up, and that’s when I get a lot of my blogging / journaling / gaming chores done. Of course this is also the last week of school before summer break, so my mornings will be changing slightly (in a good way, giving me even more free time).

So, this week the profit was 500k, not a huge amount. That’s alright. We’re still earning, and smaller profits add up. Sales this week were a handful of transmog, and nothing special besides that. As always, happy gaming – no matter where you find yourself.

[GW2] Dragon Bash – Annual COMPLETED!

This is actually the first year I’ve managed to complete the annual feats for Dragon Bash, despite having participated in the event in the past. I didn’t even know there were annual feats for it until a friend brought it up.

I managed to finish early, for once, too! It gave me a huge chunk of achievement points (something I am constantly hunting down in my goal to reach 10k) and of course a lot of the candy that is the currency of choice for this particular event. I still haven’t spent any yet – I’ve been selling off all of the chests I’ve been getting, so I’ve got a really nice pocket of change now. I also unlocked a bunch of appearance gear which is always a plus (after all, isn’t this game all about fashion wars?). Next up? I think I’ll be working on my spoon collection.

[EVE] Goodbye, Signal Cartel

Between my new found interest in Guild Wars 2, my forever interest in Wurm Online, and my sporadic interest in World of Warcraft, I have not had much time for EVE lately. No surprise there, I am after all the ‘nomadic’ gamer. It means my interests ebb and flow and I tend to bounce around from familiar game to familiar game. Speaking of, only a little while before EverQuest Legends releases, and yes, I absolutely plan on playing that one.

EVE is one of those games where you pretty much HAVE to be active – especially if you’re in a corporation. I didn’t feel like I could keep up my end of the bargain when it comes to playing, so I decided to step down from Signal Cartel, and rejoin my corporation of one, Quail Creations.

Honestly the nomadic playstyle suits me, there’s no pressure to log in if I get distracted by something else shiny, and most of what I was doing in EVE is something I can continue to do on my own anyway. I can still do all of my wormhole exploration, and while I will miss flying with Allison, I’m confident that I’ll continue to find my way, and I’ll get some stories going again after some time. I do also hope to continue with the bookmarks series over on YouTube, but I know I’ve been ‘away’ for some time. Life has been a lot lately, so my free time has been quite limited.

In any case, there were no hard feelings anywhere, it was just time for me to realize the reality of my situation. While I absolutely adore EVE, and Signal Cartel, I just haven’t had the time lately. At least this way I can’t let anyone down, my stuff is (mostly) safe in High Sec, I’m still living out of a Wormlife Freeport, and the days go on.
