This week has been one of the most difficult weeks I’ve ever had – and thankfully I can see a light at the end of the tunnel, but I’m not quite there yet. I’ve been trying to lean on my go-to during stressful times, which is gaming – but I have not been feeling it at all. A combination of reasons, really.
So I log into Wurm, do a task or two, then log out. Log into World of Warcraft, post some auctions, log out. Log into EVE, claim my daily (I’m not even sure what these ones are for to be honest) and log out. Rinse, repeat. No meaningful gaming happening what so ever. GW2? Barely. EQL? Not since Belghast passed away.
I keep searching for something. I’m not even sure what. I suppose it’s community of some sort. I think it was Tipa who mentioned that gaming alone in an MMORPG is just … not fun. You might as well be playing a single player game. I agree to some level, but I think we need to actively seek out those communities we crave, and insert ourselves into them and then move forward from there. I’m too used to watching everyone else do their thing while I’m just.. here. Awkwardly.
I unfortunately just don’t have it in me right now. So I’ll continue to wander from game to game, and craft to craft until something changes, or I start to feel that tug that I’ve been waiting for. Hopefully next week will be better.
As always, happy gaming – no matter where you find yourself.
What works for me is actively looking for a community — I think you implied that above. If I make a concerted effort, I can find people to play with and have a good time in a group. It just takes work, and I find I am more reluctant to put in the time to find a new community with each game I play.
I wouldn’t have bothered with EQL at all if Kasul hadn’t shown some enthusiasm to play; but then we both started on the Aradune TLP server and he bailed out after just a couple of weeks…
