Happy 7th Birthday MmoQuests

I purchased MmoQuests.com back in July 2006 and it’s seen some good years and some bad, but I always came back to writing here about my video game experiences. There have been over 2,300 posts in those 7 years, 62,896 spam comments since 2007, and 247,891 visits since 2010 (no idea why it didn’t count earlier than that). There are so many posts these days about ‘blogging and community‘ and ‘where did the MMO bloggers go‘ – well, this one is still right here. Still doing the same posts I’ve done for years now because I never went into this thinking I was doing anything more than writing about a hobby of mine, for myself. I love writing. In fact I have three other blogs besides this one, and although Nomadic Gamers doesn’t get a lot of traffic in the way of posts it’s still there. I don’t post very controversial topics but there are a few from the past. I also don’t get a lot of comments, but I never have – and I never ever let that stop me.

One thing I did do a few years ago was remove my blogroll from the right hand side column – and I want to change this and put it back. I had no reason for it other than the fact that it was a design choice I made at the time when I changed the theme around and just never added it back.

Anyhow, the point is – thank you. Every single person who has ever read this blog, ever supported me by clicking the donate button (it’s not free to host this massive blog for 7 years ya know), everyone who has put up with my rants, followed me from game to game, etc. I’ve met some very wonderful people by blogging here. I got a job writing for Beckett Massive Online Gamer (before they shut down of course) because of this blog. Will I be giving it up any time soon?

Most certainly not. Writing is just what I do.

Theater of Blood and Double Experience Weekend #EverQuest

EQ000088This weekend (and since Thursday, actually) was double experience for EverQuest – and boy did I ever take advantage of it. Lets start with the fun stuff. Oger, myself, and Miles decided we would head to the Theater of Blood which is also known as the Plane of Music. This zone was absolutely beautiful, and while it wasn’t our main goal my paladin did get a nice selection of class specific gear. Our real goal was to complete the Deathkneel Event #1 – Tolling of Dissonance Bells. I’ve been trying to get a fast mount for my ranger. My enchanter was lucky enough to have one given to her through an LoN claim, but the ranger doesn’t have that sort of luck. When I box and have the ranger on autofollow she always gets left behind. The item I was hoping for was Ghostrider’s Bridle – but alas even though we managed to complete the zone twice, the bridle never dropped. This zone is a pain to do especially if you’re only three people. What we had was Miles using decap on mobs that would slowly meander their way towards a set of bells in the center of a room. We had to do enough damage and prevent them from reaching the middle, and these guys are hard. The first time we tried things didn’t quite work out and we failed the event. Starting over the second run went much smoother. The mount did not drop, so we switched out characters to alts and made a second run. No mount again that time but that’s alright we still had fun and I did get a couple of items for the paladin. A nice earring clicky that gives an aura to the group was the biggest win of the evening, and I was able to loot it on both the paladin and the ranger.

Speaking of the ranger. I started the weekend at level 89, and I had planned on reaching level 92 with the character. I figured that would be a nice goal for myself and it wouldn’t be too difficult but would provide a bit of a challenge. Thanks to some wonderful groups with Oger, Miles, Sunnie, and Jevar, my 89 ranger is now level 95. This is the highest level required for headshot, so I am quite pleased for multiple reasons. The ranger is on my second account which means that helping characters on my main account just got a lot easier. I decked her out in RoF T1 gear, and picked up a handful of spells (Rk 1 for now, I can’t afford the Alaran Cantrips that are going for far too much in the bazaar).

While the ranger gained 6 levels, the enchanter also managed to earn around 800 aa over the course of the weekend. I didn’t play her much on Sunday because there wasn’t enough room in group but she didn’t do too badly for herself. A huge thank you to the group of folks I’ve been playing with lately, they really do make the game quite a bit of fun.

As always happy gaming no matter where you find yourself!

Legacy Family – Day 3 #TS3 #TheSims3

Screenshot-190I managed to get another session in with my legacy family (or rather, founder, she’s not in a family yet). It’s very slow going but I believe that’s the point. Because she doesn’t have a real house yet it’s difficult to keep her mood up, and she requires a good mood for her job – as such she has yet to be promoted but I think that may be happening the next time I play which would be great because you always get a little bonus when you get promoted.

This was the hardest play session so far because it was leisure day and she had the day before and after off. That’s a lot of days with no work, and no money. I ran to the festival grounds to try to participate in some hotdog contests and hopefully win some tickets which I could then use to buy a handful of items and sell them back to a vendor. I really want walls. However, it turns out eating hot dogs is not my forte. I came in second both times (and there was only myself and one other participating) which gave me 5 tickets, enough for the lowest prize which I immediately sold. I had roughly $160 to my name and walls are really expensive.

I left the fair and headed to a local fishing hole, which as luck would have it came with a grill where I could make hotdogs for no cost! I filled up on these and did some fishing. All my hard work really paid off when I caught two minnow that sold for $5 each.

Getting there. Slowly.

Back home after three days of eating hot dogs and fishing adventures. I was getting tired of the dishes piling up on the table I owned since I had no sink, so I got rid of the table and chair and decided I could sit on the ground to eat. I purchased a sink. Now I can at least do my dishes, brush my teeth, and wash my hands. I had just enough money left over to afford a SINGLE wall, and put a toilet against that wall. I tried just purchasing the toilet which did not work at all. You must have a wall.

So there it sits. In the middle of my housing lot. A shower. A single wall. My toilet. A sink. A stove. A fridge, and my trusty sleeping bag.

Isn’t life great.

Well hello Innoruuk! #EverQuest

EQ000086My paladin had been camping plane of hate for the past four days, trying to get the thought destroyer to spawn, or rather, waiting for the mob to spawn. There’s no place holders and the only thing you can do is wait. I placed my ranger on the spawn point because at least that way I could track, and the ranger is on my second account so my main account was at least free for other adventures. After three days of checking in I finally found the mob up and managed to get my drop. This means I can continue on with my epic quest although right now I’m working on soulfire which is another part of the paladin 1.0 epic.

I was hoping that Maestro would be up because then I could work on the paladin 1.5 pre-quest but I wasn’t quite that lucky. I did catch the hand of maestro up, that mob is used in the warrior epic quest. I looted the item because you can MQ it, and who knows maybe one day I’ll actually have a warrior.

Anyhow. As luck would have it, Innoruuk also showed up on track! I didn’t really need to kill this boss, but I wanted to, so badly. So I logged my paladin in, and the ranger took out her tank mercenary, and we set out to first defeat the false Innoruuk, and then the real one after. The mob was still a red con to my 70 paladin, and a light blue to the ranger at 89. While these encounters are far easier than they would have been for their time, there is still a challenge – which is exactly why I’ve been playing EverQuest these days. There were some tricky moments when I wasn’t sure if the paladin was going to make it, or if the mercenary may die, and I did have to use lay hands to keep the tank up, but in the end we won, and ah what a feeling that was.

I tried to camp a few more named in the hopes that a corrupted emerald would drop for the ranger, but alas my luck in EverQuest has never been that great. For now I’m content to move on with the paladin epic.

As always, happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!

Epics and Anguish #EverQuest

EQ000083Ah, Anguish. The early part of my weekend was spent completing this zone as my enchanter, duoing with Oger, a shadowknight. We were there for a few reasons but top of that list was to obtain some orbs for the epic 2.0 that I hoped my paladin would eventually get. I boxed my ranger along for the ride, she also needed an orb. When the names fell I swapped out for the paladin to get loot. The gear was a huge upgrade over what I was wearing, and I was pretty excited about the whole ordeal. I was also pleased as punch that we managed to solo the final two named in the zone, we’re not raid geared at all and mercenary are not allowed – but the hardest part is that these mobs can deathtouch unless you cure. Thankfully my weak ranger cure was enough to take care of it.

The paladin also managed to earn her first 100 aa (slightly over, now) with Oger and my ranger in Bloodfields. It was a lot of fun, and I’m happily riding around on my new instant cast unicorn mount.

Later on in the evening we decided it was time to tackle the Paladin epic chains. I wanted to start with 1.0 and do them in order, but I quickly ran into issues. I need to complete Ghoulbane, not a problem. Also need to complete Soulfire. Not a huge issue. I need a handful of named mobs – I’m currently waiting on the thought destroyer in plane of hate. I was going to skip the 1.0 for now and begin the 1.5 pre-quest however that quest needs the Hand of Maestro almost at the beginning, and he wasn’t up when I was there yesterday. Either way, I have a lot of camping ahead of me. Thankfully I have both parts of the book of scale already, so I don’t need to camp any dragons. I’m also looking to start the epic quests on my ranger, but I’d really like to finish the paladin first. We’ll see how it goes.

As always, happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!
