If You Could Start Over – Would You?

In most cases, and even in this specific case that I want to talk about, I would not start over. In video games like World of Warcraft, accounts have a history. The game is old, and if you’ve been playing since the start, that’s a LOT of history.

For the past year or so I’ve been contemplating starting over on the EU servers. I am NA, but the time that I play is much better suited to EU, and I thought perhaps I’d have an easier time looking for groups, or guilds. Plus I have a lot of EU friends who play, and wouldn’t it be great to do some delves or some timewalking together.

So I started up a EU account, on a brand new bnet (this part doesn’t matter, because nothing is shared across regions anyway). With timewalking going on leveling is VERY fast, and before I knew it I had an 80 paladin. The problem is that I have not done The War Within story which means I don’t have the weekly quests available (yet).

Working through those quests when I’ve already done them over on NA (plus all the other goodies I have on NA) is difficult but I know if I just stick it out and get these chores done, I’ll feel much better about things.

Plus, doesn’t it make for good stories? While I’m at it, let’s talk gold. I have zero, or at least I started with zero. How much can I earn when I’m starting over from scratch, only using a single character, and on a new region with no materials at all?

I suppose we’ll see!

Gold Making – Week 27 / 2025

It’s a slow period in World of Warcraft right now, at least as far as my sales are concerned. That’s not a bad thing, the market ebbs and flows and I know that this slower portion will eventually turn around to some bigger sales eventually. I’m currently posting around 100-150 items across 20 different North American servers. It includes a mixture of full/medium/low servers, and is mostly transmog, pets, and recipes. I rarely ever (ie: never) deal in current-tier sales, which I know is where the bigger money is at, but I’m nothing if not patient and consistent.

Gold is Only as Good as The Good it can Do

I don’t know who this player is, but they were having a bad day and were trying to get enough gold for a token so they could continue to play. I don’t always have the means / extra spoons to help out those around me in the way that they need, but in Warcraft I do, so I decided to send them 150k so they could get their token. I don’t think they expected me to actually do it. They had no idea who I was (I’m brand new to the server, I don’t even have a guild at the moment) and they were not asking me directly, but just commenting on trade chat.

It made their day, which in turn made my day. I like helping out where I can, and doing this in Warcraft is one of the very small ways I can help. I asked them to pay it forward in the future when someone else was having a bad day. I wrote them an in character note from my gnome merchant, and left the conversation at that.

Doing these small little random acts of kindness really puts me in a better frame of mind when the world is very dark and doesn’t seem like a good place. There IS goodness. I am a part of that. Even if it’s just in a video game, it’s going to be something that person remembers. Plus now they can keep playing, and honestly I can’t think of any better break from the real world than to go play in Azeroth.

Happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself.

Finding Motivation

I think this has been the longest I’ve ever been away from World of Warcraft, and it’s not really because of the game, but it is because of my lack of community within the game. I used to have some very good friends playing, and now none of them play. I have nothing holding me to the game, I’ve got as much gold as I could ever possibly want, and I’m not interested in the gear grind.

The things that keep me playing EVE Online, or Wurm Online, is the players. I don’t necessarily need to DO things in game with others, but I do like the social aspect of it. I’m also awkward, and don’t know how to act around people very well. Having generic goals in these games is simply not enough for me. HOW to go about finding a guild of like-minded people is another issue. It was just so much easier when I had a static bunch to play with, and I miss that dearly.

This rambling post is for nothing other than solidifying my desire to return to World of Warcraft, and the first step to me doing that was to jump right back into the goblin side of things and get my characters selling again. I’m keeping it more simple than in the past, while I do have two separate accounts with auction house characters on each, I’m only posting with one account for the time being. I have no idea how far behind I am, or what I’ve missed. Or where I should be. All of that is a bit overwhelming to think about. I’d like to move my characters to a roleplay server, and find a suitable community before player housing comes out. I used to love attending roleplay events, and I think I’ll have a better chance of finding ‘my people’ that way.

We’ll just have to see. Happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!

WoW Economy Wrap Up – December

I had taken a break for most of 2024, leaving Warcraft back in April and while I did return sporadically throughout the rest of the year, it wasn’t until December that I finally fell back into my familiar patterns when it came to gold making. I knew there was a few reasons for this, most noticeably a lack of community and sense of belonging that I just haven’t been able to find in the game. I stumbled off to EVE Online, where I worked on ISK making and because I had quite a large community there, I found it easier to stick with it. That being said, Warcraft is a game I enjoy a great deal, I just need to take some time to find my people.

Back to the sales! I’m currently spread across 28 NA realms, though I do have an active EU account as well (I haven’t been playing it frequently, and I have no plans on doing any gold making there). My best realm for the month of December was Mal’Ganis (2.3 million earned), followed by Thrall (1 million earned). My least profitable realm was Agamaggan, where I only made 31k for the month. I was not particularly consistent with my gold making habits this month, sometimes I didn’t feel like reposting my items so I would just wait until the next day, and I’m still spending a lot of gold playing catch up when it comes to professions.

I deal in a lot of high end materials, mostly transmog. Even though Mal’Ganis was my top selling server as far as amount of gold goes, I still only sold 7 items there. One of those items was 1.7m gold.

As long as I make a sale here and there, it seems to balance out. I spend approximately 1h each day on dedicated gold making, which is mostly just putting items back up for sale, or stock management. I do currently have 5 active accounts, and I’ve been using a level 11 character to power level characters from my 3 main accounts. Once the 20th anniversary (and timewalking) ends, I’ll drop back down to 3 accounts instead of 5. My two ‘extra’ accounts have level 11 characters that I can use without a subscription, so it all seems to work out in the end.

I hope everyone has had a great 2024, and here’s hoping 2025 brings lots of sales and some exciting times to Warcraft. Happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!
