[EQL] Questions Answered

All sorts of questions were answered on the EverQuest Legends FAQ today in discord in one neat and tidy place. I’m posting a few of the more popular ones / interesting ones here. I was very excited to learn that housing will be a thing, as it was NOT a thing in THJ.

What additional content is coming?
Additional content and expansions will be scheduled by the Dev team and announced when they have a solid roadmap for each.
Kunark is definitely in the works, dates to be determined. The Dev team is also working on additional content and features, to be announced.

What platforms will EQL be released on?
At this time, PC only. There are no current plans for MAC, Linux or others. The game will not be on Steam at launch, but may be released on Steam at a later time.

Will EQL use the existing EQ launcher or something new?
EQL will use its own, modern, 64-bit launcher on the Daybreak platform.
You will need a Daybreak Account to play EQL.

Will EQL be free-to-play? One time purchase? Subscription?
EQ Legends will not be F2P. The game will have an upfront fee and will operate with a subscription model. We believe the pricing will be at the lower end of most players’ expectations. We will provide more details soon.

Will there be microtransactions through an in-game marketplace?
There will be cosmetic and utility items offered for sale in game, which in no way impact power. For example, we will include xp potions, and some special new items that can be used to customize your character.

Will we be able to transfer between servers to join friends and family who started elsewhere?
This is still being determined.

Does EQL allow Multiboxing?
No

What races will be available in Beta and launch?
15 races will be available at launch, including all 12 of the original EverQuest races: Human, Barbarian, Half-Elf, Wood Elf, High Elf, Dark Elf, Dwarf, Gnome, Erudite, Halfling, Ogre, Troll, plus Kerran, Iksar and Froglok!

Kerran, Iksar, and Frogloks were not in the original launch of EverQuest in 1999, where do these races start in EQL?
Iksar will emerge from a newly created zone, an encampment linked to the shores of North Ro.
Frogloks will spawn in Norrath in Rathe Mountains. Their appearance is in keeping with the Frogloks in original EQ. Kerran will start on Kerra Isle.

Will Iksar still be considered “evil” or will they be neutral in EQL?
Iksar are not well liked by anyone, however they are more slightly more tolerant of outsiders than the Kunark natives, except those who worship a specific entity.

How do Kerrans differ from Vah Shir in classic EverQuest?
You’ll have to play and find out.

If I have three pet classes as my build, can I call out three pets?
Pets will be limited to one per player, at this time.

Do Ogres gain experience more slowly, as in original EQ?
All class and race modifiers to experience have been removed.

What zones will be available in Beta and Launch?
All Classic EverQuest zones on Antonica, Faydwer and Odus. More content and zones will be released over time and announced well in advance by the Dev Team.

Will Plane of Fear and Plane of Hate be available in Beta and Launch?
Absolutely. Good luck.

Will zones be instanced?
Yes, all zones CAN be instanced. Dungeons and Raid bosses WILL be instanced.

Will there be any brand new or retooled zones for us to experience?
Yes.

Will there be a Bazaar zone for offline selling of items?
There will be a game feature that allows item trading and selling. More details coming soon.

MISCELLANEOUS ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL GAMEPLAY QUESTIONS
Is there housing in game at launch or planned for later?

Yes, at launch. The will be accessible from the East Commonlands Tunnel.

Will there be Guild Halls at launch or later on?
Not at launch.

Do snakes kick in EQL?
Of course, kicking is a core ability of the race of legless reptiles. Watch out for monk class snakes, they’ve picked up some much more terrifying tricks.

Will there by dyes in game?
Dyes will not be available, however alternative appearance customization tools will be.

Will /gems be in game?
It is indeed. Enjoy!

  1. Very interesting. Thanks for the summary.

The multi-boxing ban is going to be problematic. It was a hot topic on Discord when I was browsing there and it’s been hugely controversial on the TLE servers for years now. Taking it out of the equation for EQL does something to protect Daybreak’s own servers, where it’s openly allowed on some and partially on others but policing it on the EQL servers could be a problem.

Also interesting that you need a Daybreak account to play. That makes it sound less independent than they’ve been suggesting although it is normal for a publisher agreement. Still, might put some people off. I think everything else in there is either covered already in the original press release or just as you’d expect, except for housing. That’s a real surprise, given it was added so much later in the original game.

    1. I think the multiboxing thing will be less of a concern than expected, there’s no real need to multibox when you can multiclass. I’m also curious how they’ll handle that because they do state you won’t need to whitelist IPs if you’re a family playing together (which is what I had to do for THJ, which also didn’t allow multiboxing).
