[Wurm Online] The Path to Meditation

Wurm Online is one of those games where the higher your skill is, the more difficult it is (ie: longer it takes) to raise those skills. Not all skills are created equal, either. One that I’ve been working on off and on for years now is meditation.

You can meditate 5x a day with a 30 minute timer between meditations, then it’s a 3h timer between meditations after you complete your 5. If the server resets the timer resets. The problem is you’re not guaranteed a skill up even if you do meditate. There are some things you can do, like using a low ql rug (you want to use a low quality rug for skilling, and a high quality rug for getting the meditation questions) and I always make sure to use a little moonshine and my sleep bonus – but even then, it’s slow.

[08:42:07] Meditating increased by 0.0822 to 58.6579

I’m trying to reach 70 in the skill. I’ve been trying for a long time. I know if I just focused a bit to at least get my 5x meditation done each day it wouldn’t be quite as bad as I make it out to be, but that’s easier said than done. You also can’t meditate in the same spot over and over, you need to shuffle some tiles away from the last spot you were at. Right now I have two meditation rugs set up on my deed and I shuffle between them every 30 minutes. Well, that’s what I WOULD do at least if I were able to focus on this skill. Instead I typically get sidetracked and wander off some place.

The other skill I’m working on? Weapon smithing. Right now I am at 61.48, which means I can improve my weapons to around 70 quality before it gets too difficult. Ideally, I’d like to get 90+ in the skill. Weapon smithing is another one of those ‘strange’ skills though and it takes FAR longer to skill up than your average skill. I also get bored of it pretty easily, so I tend to do a few grind sessions and then wander off of my deed for a week or two to do other things. I’ll get there eventually. Maybe.

As always, happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!

[Wurm Online] Halloween – Halloween Everywhere!

Wurm Online (like many other games) has a Halloween event active for this year, so I spent some time yesterday collecting the new treats. You run around to doors (that do not belong to you) and knock – and trick or treat, either a greenish mob will spawn that you have to defeat (this happens for the really nice items) or you’ll get an NPC version who will give you an archaeology bit + a candy. This year the rewards were great, though I did have some issues placing the bat swarm in my house (I think I need a ceiling, and right now my Archives building does not have one).

I had every intention of staying logged in so that I could work on Quail Landing (my partially built very neglected castle deed on the main land of Independence) but instead I got sidetracked with a bunch of other stuff. I did also get the pumpkin lantern that you can attach to a vehicle, and this is probably my favourite item. I immediately attached it to my rare wagon, and now there’s a lit up jack-o-lantern beside me on the seat. Too cute!

I’m glad I got the items, and if you’ve never participated in this event before maybe check it out and see if you like it! Afterward, there’s tons of spooky archaeology bits to collect so you can make some fancy items of Halloweens past.

Happy gaming – no matter where you find yourself!

Wurm Online – a LOT of Rifts

Wurm Online is one of my absolute favourite games of all time. I’ve been playing it for over 13 years on a fairly steady basis. I’ve never really done the whole skill grinding thing that so many others have done before me, but I do have a total of 5 characters, 4 of those are priests (one for each deity). I’ve been wanting to obtain a bracelet for myself that comes from rifts, this bracelet is charged up with energy so that the next “moi” (moment of inspiration) gives you a guaranteed rare item. Normally if you get an MOI there’s a chance the item you’re working with WON’T be rare. It sucks. It happens to me often.

I’m not even sure about what I want to use this item on yet, because there are so many options. My knarr? My wagon? A tent just to have it sparkle? Unsure. There are also 2 shoulders I want to purchase, dragon shoulder pads, they cost 1,000 rift points each. At the time of writing this, Faralithe, my Libila priest – has 1300 points (give or take). Stargrace is at around 500 points, but they don’t transfer between characters. I used to have a lot more points on Stargrace but I’ve purchased an item here and there.

Anyway. Right now I have Faralithe doing rifts (since they show up on each server I can attend them fairly regularly) and then Stargrace and three other alts are currently parked at a holy site, a mag fissure, on Exodus. This fissure spews archaelogy fragments into your inventory once an hour (so long as you’re premium) and I always try to attend them when I can. I’ve gotten some pretty interesting bits from doing it so far and it’s a lovely way to gear out the alts with good tools.

Anyway. I know I’ve been quiet lately, but I’m still here, still gaming, and occasionally posting. You can find me in Wurm Online as Stargrace, or Faralithe – happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!

A Rift (or two)

Wurm Online still remains to this day one of my ultimate favourite comfort games, and even though I haven’t been writing about it, you can still usually find me in-game (as Stargrace). This week I participated in a few Rift events, which are massive server wide ring events where you defeat waves of mobs, earn points for defeating them, and then use those points at a special shop that gives you some pretty decent items. One thing that I’m saving up for is a bracelet that let’s you automatically succeed on your next rare roll. I’d really like to turn my knarr rare, or my tent, or wagon.

I’ve been working on my priest alts, I have a Vynora/Libila/Fo at 100 faith and a Mag priest at 94. A few subscriptions are lapsing, which is fine as I rarely use all of them. My main deed, Quail Cove, obtained a new building. I call it the archives, and it holds all of the ‘collectable’ stuff I’ve gathered over the years. The inside isn’t set up yet, but it will get there.

There are a few more rifts coming up this week that I want to attend, we’ll see how close to my bracelet goal I can get. You need 2500 for the bracelet. Last rift I earned just over 300 points, so it does take some time to earn.

As always, happy gaming – no matter where you find yourself.

EVE, Wurm, Warcraft – and an Update

I haven’t been very good about blogging regularly for a while now, there has just been too much going on in my day to day to set aside the time for it, so I won’t promise that I’ll be any better about that, but I do still hope to do some semi-regular updates about my gaming adventures. After all, the blog will be 19 years old in June, and that’s something to celebrate. So. What’s up with me?

First of all. I was having a LOT of issues with my web host, and I’ve decided to just migrate back to good ‘ol wordpress. I know they’re the evil corporation of blogs, but they’re also one of the easier ones for me to shuffle off to, so that’s where I’m at. My previous host kept shutting my blog down as AI bots were crawling it constantly creating a bunch of inflated traffic. Then they removed my ability to post pictures (unless hosted at a place like imgur) and still the problems were not solved. I’m paid up until November, so the old version will remain, but all the updates will be here going forward.

EVE – I started playing EVE again. No surprise there. Due to my inactivity I was removed from Signal Cartel (no malice there) and I cannot rejoin until 60 days has passed since I was removed. So far it has only been 32 days. I’m undecided as to whether or not I will re-join. While I do enjoy the corporation, I cannot guarantee my activity levels, and that’s not fair to the corp, really. For now I’m in an NPC corporation and still living in the Wormlife Freeport. I’ve been testing out the ‘new’ feature of PI templates, which is pretty cool (it only took 15 years) but it will also take me some time to create / save templates. Still, I’m thankful that PI got any sort of attention at all.

Wurm Online – Still working on my deed, Quail Landing. This is a castle deed attached to the mainland of Independence. I also created my 3rd deed, over on the Exodus server. This is just a retreat type of deed for when I need a change of pace, or am looking for something ‘new’ to do for a while. Upkeep is set for the next year, so even if I don’t use the deed I can just keep it there and forget about it until I’m feeling that itch again. Yesterday there was a green dragon slaying over on Release that was quite fun to attend, and I also participated in my first rift (well, sort of) this week. I couldn’t attend the actual combat portion, but I did help complete two of the colossus which are part of the pre-event. I earned a lot of rift points, and some rift materials (used for runes). It was fun!

Warcraft – Sadly Warcraft has been my neglected MMO at this point. I keep waiting to hear more news about things like player housing but I feel so out of the loop and I just haven’t had much motivation to log in. When I do log in, it’s for some simple collecting, or just updating a few things. I haven’t done anything re: making gold, or the economy. I think a large portion of this is due to still not finding my ‘people’ in game. I do not have a community I belong to, where as in both Wurm and EVE, I have a somewhat large community of people I can talk with and interact with at any one given time. Still, I’m not ready to cut ties completely. Especially with housing just on the horizon.

Playing anything fun? Avowed? Palworld? Waiting for the latest expansion to your favourite game? Let me know in comments – or as always you can find me these days over on Mastodon and Bluesky.

Happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!
