[EQ2] [Wurm] What Ever Happened With That..

Remember when I wrote a few months back that I was joining the EQII content creator program? Then I posted once or twice, and did a few videos, and all my content immediately stopped.

At that exact same time, I joined the Wurm Online content creator program, and the same thing happened.

So. WHAT exactly happened?

Each of these programs had obligations like creating 1 video / post / piece of content a week, and gave “compensation” like your monthly subscription covered, and access to beta events. A special name on discord, etc. In the case of EQ2, that means $14.99 a month, and in Wurm Online, that is 7.99€.

Let us say that each piece of content created took roughly 2-3 hours. That would include any streaming/videos/editing/writing/etc. It would probably often take longer, and you were required to do this 4x a month plus promote it, etc.

If you were already creating this type of content and wanted into the program for posterity sake, maybe you would find it worth it. However, my time has value to me, and a $15 subscription was well below what I value it at. I AM still playing EQ2, and Wurm Online, but I am just paying for it with my own money, and if I want to create content, yay, and if I don’t, no big deal because I’m not obligated. In any case, when I did all of the math I realized that I had just gotten swept up in the “we’ll pay you in EXPOSURE” side of things, and that these types of programs are simply not for me – despite the fact that I DO love the games, and continue to play, and from time to time, will write or stream or post a YouTube video. I like to bounce around my games. I like to play quietly. I like to write / create videos when I do, and not on a schedule. Sometimes I also just can’t, because I’m in the middle of an MS relapse or because life is kicking me around, or I simply don’t want to.

Yes, I do wish I were like a lot of the content creators I see out there, dedicated to a handful of games that I’m passionate about – but it’s OK that I’m not, too. It’s a ton of time and energy that I simply don’t have any more.

So that’s what happened.

[Wurm Online] A bit of Christmas Disappointment

One thing I always look forward to each year is the Christmas event over at Wurm Online. They always put out a new collectable item, and there’s buffs that we all get that increase the skill gains and typically have a chance at gaining an affinity as we work.

This year we received a crate, wine bottles, and a tray for fancy glasses, along with the glasses. Typically, once you’ve collected the items for the current Christmas, there’s an opportunity (for those who are premium at least with a subscription) for you to collect gifts of years gone by. This year, however, they opted out of that.

This year started out with a great idea, a game-wide secret Santa. I loved this idea. On paper. In practice, it was bad.

The way it worked is you would visit your Christmas tree and donate something you had made, that had your signature on it. For priests this is a bit difficult, as they cannot make high quality items. Anything a priest donated to the tree was almost always going to be poor quality. You had to do these donations in order to get even the basic gifts, so I only did it with my main.

Once you had obtained the new items for this year, you would, each time you donated, receive a gift back from another player. An item they had donated. Some players went all out, and donated things like magic chests. I donated a bunch of 90ql tools and items.

Unfortunately, everything I received back was 20ql. A lot of plates. Some spoons. I felt it unfair that I had taken the time do donate fair quality gifts, enchanted items and archaeology components that I would have loved to receive myself. In return, I got garbage. I ended up throwing it in the compost.

Good idea in theory, but made horrible by other players. I did enjoy obtaining the new items to add to my growing museum collection, but I wish there had of been some sort of compensation for those who went above and beyond with their thoughtful gifts.

As always, happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself.

[Wurm Online] The Blackmoor Christmas Impalong

It’s almost that time! Shrimpiie will be hosting the next Impalong over on the Independence server, along with a whole host players who are helping him get organized. I will be hanging out there with my priest alt, Faralithe, during the week and then during the weekend I hope to make it with Stargrace. I don’t need anything improved, but I do like to work on my own skills while helping out other players. It’s a great way for players from the NFI (northern islands) to pop over and have some times made, since you cannot move items between NFI/SFI.

This is the closest I’ve ever lived to an impalong, and I like that I don’t have to do any traveling to get here because it’s in my back yard. When things get too crowded I can just wander back to my own deed, or if the number of people in local starts to give me a little anxiety. I tend to like things quiet, so we’ll see how long I stick around for.

These events are fantastic for both those looking to raise skills, and those looking to help. It’s a wonderful way to get to know the community that you game with, and there’s always some amazing giveaways and tournaments during the event, too. Impalongs are one of those really unique parts of Wurm Online that really has to be seen in person.

As always, happy gaming no matter where you find yourself!

[Wurm Online] Black Friday Sale & Skins

Each year, Wurm Online does a single large sale on their subscriptions, and that’s when I tend to purchase game time for my active accounts (that’s 2 accounts at the moment of this post, but in the past it has been more) and I top up the deeds to make sure they’ll be sticking around (at the moment I have 3 deeds). If you’re premium you can also claim a skin this month for a Thunder Forge, which looks pretty awesome (thanks to Moumix for letting me borrow his for the screenshots).

In the meantime, I’m making goals for 2026 (something I do each year, but they usually fall by the wayside) such as reaching 70 skill in meditation on my main (this has been a huge work in progress) and maybe MAYBE finishing off the buildings at Quail Landing. Will I get there? Who knows. Still, having these little goals always brings me a lot of joy, and gives me some purpose while I play.

Speaking of, there’s an Impalong happening not too long from now, on Hermit Island, which is where I live. My neighbour is going to be hosting it, so that should bring about a few visitors to my area, and of course I’ll also be attending.

As always, happy gaming no matter where you find yourself!

[Wurm Online] The Finders Keepers Series

You might have missed it, but I’ve been posting a Wurm Online series over on YouTube called Finders Keepers. I created a new character named Fynder over on the Cadence server (Northern Islands) and the premises of the series is that we start completely from scratch – including giving up all of our gear / tools that we start with, and we can only use items that we actually find. No crafting.

In episode one I wander around doing a bit of foraging and botanizing, and trying to find my way out of the populated areas so that I can potentially stumble into some salvage. We find a shaft, some cotton, and 5 whole copper. One of the ‘rules’ of this challenge is that we CAN use merchants, but we can’t do direct trades with other players. We can also only spend what we find. No premium, no deed – unless it’s paid for with coins that we find. Assembling items with found bits is OK, but crafting them from scratch, not OK. The goal is to live light, and not carry around too much. So we started with zero gear, zero tools, and where are we now after the second episode?

In episode 2 we stumbled into a really nice bit of items that were decaying from a fallen deed. We found a shield, a sword, and some tools. Still missing armor, and we don’t have a pickaxe (pretty high up on my list in case we get stuck some place and need to mine our way out). We also have no rope, so no way to lead animals. We have no tent, but for now we are still protected by the beginner buff and our aggro range is reduced.

We also stumbled into a whole silver piece as far as coins go! Botanizing has really been paying off. I spent some time looking for a merchant to potentially spend this silver, without luck. I’d really like a compass. We have no maps available to us, and I’m pretty sure we’ve been walking in circles.

If you’re interested in watching these episodes (and the rest of them) you can find them over on YouTube. Production quality is low, but I’m still learning, so just hang tight as I deal with sound issues and all of the rest. As always, happy gaming, no matter where you find yourself!
